What's All This About, Then?
(aka Your Many Questions Indelicately Answered)

(hint #1: scroll down and this won't be as hard to read. You're welcome.)

We go on trips. Road trips. Other trips. But mostly road trips. Sometimes (ideally) long ones. Sometimes not.

Yes, this is the same blog as the one about the Oregon Trail. Yes, it used to have a stagecoach and a dusty feel to it, which went along with the Oregon Trail very nicely. Yes, that was a great trip. That was three years ago. (the blog is still here if you want to read it...it starts here)

So...as we embark on the latest chapter of our roamin' ways, we want to invite you to come along. First, we might get lonely. I mean, we don't really get lonely much, but it's possible. Second, you might miss us. Third, you just might be nosy. And fourth, we are notoriously and and historically bad at sending postcards, circulating photos, keeping up with a scrapbook; as a matter of fact, with documenting our trip in most every way. We figured this might be the 21st century solution. It worked for the last trip, which was (as you know) three years ago (sniff). So we're keeping it going.

We hope you'll pop in, read about where we are, what we're doing, see photos of our adventures, and experience our gypsy hardships (like no room service) vicariously! Most importantly, we hope you'll add your comments and greetings, which we will get when we get to one of our stopping points. Souvenir requests will receive due consideration (Hint #1: Success is highly correlated with tackiness).

For those so inclined (you know who you are), we will also list links to related sites so that you can learn with us as we learn on the road, and maybe visit some of the same sights in the future!

Happy Trails to us all!

Love, Phoebe and Robin

Another GREAT book for kids (and adults!)

We found this book in one of the gift shops along our way. It's a poem, very simple and lyrical, and it makes me cry every time I hear it (Phoebe reads it out loud to me in the car). I'm a sap from way back, so I won't guarantee that part, but still, it's a wonderful book. I would highly recommend it...absolutely beautiful, and so reflective of this whole experience (whether live or virtual). Check it out (click on the book for a link)...

Haven't checked in for a while, but have been thinking of you both -- maybe I was dealing with the'buck stops here...ha ha' Actually this only made your adventures more spectacular. How much you have been able to pack into yopur experience, and what variety! Such a great example of the importance of the 'real' experience. Phoebe, you are right when you realized how little of the full experience you got at school. All we can do is give you a taste of it and hope that kids will carry the interest on. You really have to be there to get the clearer picture. That's the purpose of our Travel-Study trips which you will go on in several years. Hopefully Kevin and Brendan, when they go west in August, will get some of the flavor that you have been so lucky to experience.
Love to see the books you are reading, Phobe. If you find any really good ones, maybe you would get a copy to add to our school library.
Clover sends her best. She is still going strong, butr misses you kids and her many treats.
Barbara and I have completely rearranged the school so you can expect a surpise when you get back in September. Leslie has turned the library end into a larger Discovery Area which I know you will like.
Have fun seeing mama Audrey in Californmia and look forward to the next installments.
Westward ho!

hi robin and phoebe!!
i've been faithfully reading your blog, and absolutely love it... what an exciting and interesting journey. you continue to inspire me with all of your great trips in "our own backyard," relatively speaking, which makes me even more excited about my upcoming return to the states! we will definitely have some catching up to do... lots of pictures, stories and hugs to be passed around. phoebe, i have the feeling that you might just be taller than me by the time i get home... so you better slow down with that whole growing thing, or YOU will have to babysit ME! and robin, i deeply empathize with your sense of internal obligation towards the blog. i'm right there with you, and am well impressed with your diligence and all the wonderful things you've done with it. so keep up the good work! you're teaching me new things every day, and i just love it.

Dear Robin and Phoebe, I got off the Oregon Trail with a busy schedule, and am so glad to reconnect!! Thanks for the stories. The photos are great...the information shows me how little I know.
Sorry to hear the car woes....hope that will be a dim memory. Happy August in a matter of hours! What mileage you've packed, hills you've climbed, HEAT you've endured....brave, strong women, both of you!

Looking forward to getting to OREGON itself...should be close!
Love, Chris
